About This Show

Sunday 3rd July @ 3:30pm

Duration 60min Approx

In July and August, from dark locations, the faintly glowing band of the Milky Way will be seen arching right across the sky, with the stars of the Summer Triangle well placed.

There is also a fine display of planets. The brilliant Jupiter and the somewhat fainter Saturn are seen to the south as soon as darkness falls, and the lovely Red Planet, Mars rises a little later in the evening. Venus becomes a brilliant object in the early morning sky by the end of July.

Come to the Planetarium for a breathtaking tour of the night sky and to find out more about what there is to be seen on clear evenings in late spring and summer.

Prices and Admission

Opening Times

Because we are a charity run by volunteers we are only open for the public shows from 45 minutes before the published show time. Therefore there is no facility to accommodate casual visitors..

Seating

The seats in the main auditorium are ex-aircraft seats. Those in the first two rows are set at a slightly reclined angle to provide the best possible view. They can, however, be tipped forwards to enable easier access to the rows behind when entering and leaving. The seats in the back row do not recline. They provide a wide view of the entire dome area, which some of our visitors prefer.

Accessibility

To ensure that you have the best possible experience, please inform us in advance about any disability needs for assistance or special requirements. Email us on sdownsplanet@btconnect.com or call 01243 774400. The Planetarium building is fully accessible for wheelchairs.
